What Is NAET?

NAET is an acronym for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique. NAET, first developed in California, is based on principles from the fields of allopathic (Western medical knowledge), chiropractic, acupuncture, kinesiology, and nutrition. NAET is a natural, non-invasive, and drug-free holistic treatment.

How Does NAET Work?

In some ways the body works much like a computer, programmed to respond in certain ways. NAET procedures reprogram the nervous system so that the immune system stops attacking food, irritants, chemicals, or anything else a person is allergic to. Once the body accepts reprogramming, it heals itself.

How Do Acupuncture And Acupressure Relate To Allergy Alleviation with NAET?

Since acupuncture/ acupressure points fall along the body’s energy pathways, or meridians, either of these methods may be used to balance the nervous system to bring the body to a state of homeostasis. This is done in the presence of a given allergen, so that an allergic reaction will not result upon future contact with that same substance. When this result is obtained, the client is said to have been "cleared" of his allergy to that substance.

How Do NAET Procedures Work?

After diagnosis has been completed using kinesiological muscle response testing, a systematic procedure begins in which the central nervous system is mildly stimulated in the presence of each allergen, in order to reprogram the brain with the new message. Most clients can successfully receive acupressure around the spine to stimulate the nerves which convey messages to and from the brain going to the organs and other tissues all over the body.

How Do I Know If NAET Is Right For Me?

If you are a client, and would like to find out if NAET could help with your condition, you should read the book, Say Goodbye to Illness by Devi S. Nambudripad, M.D. (WI), D.C., L.Ac., Ph.D. (Acu.).

If you suffer from any allergic condition (food, chemical, environmental, emotional allergies) or if your health condition has developed from any allergy, no matter how long you have been sick, or how old you are, NAET can help you.

You may need numerous NAET procedures before you begin to feel better if your condition is serious, you have a poor immune system, or if you have been sick for a long time.

How Likely Is It That Allergies Are A Cause Of My Health Problems?

Immune and allergic diseases like M.S., asthma, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and common hay fever have skyrocketed in recent times, and the number of allergy sufferers today has exploded. Because of deficient soil, processed foods, environmental poisons and toxins, and stress, our immune systems have become vulnerable and over-reactive.

Dr. Devi has found that there are almost no diseases in modern times that aren't caused or worsened by often unknown allergies.

What Are Allergies?

From a Western medical point of view, an allergy is an over-reaction by the immune system. But medical scientists are still researching to find the exact cause and nature of allergies and may not have all the answers for years to come.

In NAET, allergies are viewed from a holistic perspective based on Oriental medical principles. An allergy is a condition of unusual sensitivity of one person to one or more substances which may be harmless to the majority of other individuals. In the allergic person, the allergic substance, known as an allergen, is viewed by the immune system as a threat to the body's well-being.

For our purposes, an allergy is defined in terms of what a substance does to the energy flow in the body. When contact is made with an allergen, it causes blockages in the energy pathways called meridians, or we can say, it disrupts the normal flow of energy through the body's electrical circuits. This energy blockage causes interference in communication between the brain and body via the nervous system. This blocked energy flow is the first step in a chain of events that can develop into an allergic response. Allergies are the result of energy imbalances in the body, leading to a diminished state of health in one or more organ systems.

Can Allergies Cause Illness?

Yes, they can! When a virus attacks, an amazing defense mechanism goes into action. The struggle to rid the body of the invading virus we recognize as the symptoms of illness, such as fever, coughing, aches, vomiting, fatigue, etc. These are, in fact, signals of the battle that is going on inside the body as it tries to throw off the invading toxins-producing virus.

Untreated, the symptoms increase with serious results. Similarly, continuous contact with an allergen produces toxins in the body, causing similar reactions to occur. An undiagnosed or undetected allergic condition will produce conditions that are equally serious.

Many times the allergic reactions produce symptoms that mimic other conditions. Respiratory problems like bronchitis, pneumonia, and asthma, circulatory problems like chest muscle pains, poor circulation, rapid heartbeats, heart irregularities, gastrointestinal problems like indigestion, acute abdominal pains, acute appendicitis, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and ulcers, genito-urinary problems like kidney and bladder infections, prostate troubles, pre-menstrual syndromes and post-menstrual disorders, impotency, infertility, musculo-skeletal problems like unexplained pains anywhere in the body, various types of headaches, backaches, arthritis, restless leg syndrome, brain symptoms like brain fog, depression, anger, attention-deficit disorders, hyperactivity, learning disorders, skin problems like eczema, boils, slow healing wounds, environmental reactions like multiple chemical sensitivity, allergy to pollens, perfumes, animal dander, carpets, building materials, etc.

Just about any health condition could be merely a symptom of underlying allergies. If such conditions are not diagnosed correctly, the client may receive a procedure that may further complicate the client's condition.

How Do You Determine The Specific Substances I May Be Allergic To?

NAET practitioners use Muscle Response Testing (MRT) to gauge the body's reaction to specific substances. It is a painless and reliable technique, but allergy blood tests are the most reliable tests to capture before and after results.

Unfortunately, allergy tests available today do not provide a comprehensive and accurate picture of all possible allergens. Skin or scratch tests, although fairly reliable for the detection of environmental allergens, are not as accurate for detecting food allergies. The usefulness of skin tests can also be affected by skin conditions such as significant dermatitis or eczema, and by medications, such as histamines and some anti-depressants.

The most widely medically accepted allergy tests are the Allergen specific IgE/IgG Antibody Blood Test.  It is highly recommended to do the blood test so stronger allergies can be evaluated after NAET.  Just knowing your allergies can change your life and allow you to become more aware of not only what is affecting you but how much you are affected by the allergens.

NAET (Nambudripd’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) practitioners supplement information from conventional allergy testing with applied Kinesiology based Muscle Testing. Although an unconventional method, this innovative technique is harmless to the client. When practiced by an experienced professional according to protocols, it provides invaluable information on a wide range of food, environmental and emotional allergies.

What Are the Basics?

As Dr. Devi worked with many clients over the years, she discovered that treating basic items brought dramatic improvements in her clients' health. These basics must be addressed before addressing specific allergy concerns.

The basics include: Eggs, Calcium, Vitamin C, Vitamin B, Sugars, Iron, Vitamin A, Minerals, Salt/Cl, Corn, Grains, Yeast, Acid, Base, Hormones

Why Am I Required To Address The Basics? I've Never Had A Problem Eating Them, And I Don't Feel Allergic To Them.

Dr. Devi realized that chronic illness often results from undiagnosed food and chemical sensitivities, including intolerances to vitamins and minerals. If you are having health problems, or don't feel well, or have been to doctors who can't tell you why you don't feel well, then it's likely you have intolerances to foods and don't know it.

Addressing the basics allows the body to begin to heal and rebuild itself.

What Do You Do During A Treatment? Will It Hurt?

Based on principles of acupuncture and chiropractic, the treatments use gentle acupressure on the back to open the acupuncture meridians and stimulate the spinal nerves.

It is safe and painless, and it can be done on infants, young children, and even ill or very frail clients.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

After your first consultation and exam, Liezl will let you know about how many visits you would benefit from. The severity of your health problems and length of time you've been experiencing them will influence your course of care. In support of proper NAET treatment protocol, you can expect at least 15 treatments which cover the basics.

How Long Will It Take Before I Experience Better Health?

I can understand the burning desire to regain your health. The total length of the treatment program varies greatly from one individual to another, depending upon the number of specific allergies, and the overall intensity of the allergic condition. It may take anywhere from 15 to 40 visits, depending on your condition, to note significant results.

What Can I Do To Help My Body Clear An Allergen?

After a treatment, you will be given detailed instructions. Drink fluids and get plenty of rest. Avoid exposure to the treated allergen by not eating or touching it for at least full 25 hours.

Almost everyone that visits my office is successful in clearing their allergies when they follow these instructions.

return to top

Are The Treatments Permanent?

NAET treatments are almost always permanent. Once you clear an allergen, you can expect to stay clear in the future. Allergens are cleared (treated) one at a time with this technique and best results are obtained when allergens are cleared in a specific sequence. Normally only one item is treated on a given day. The substance must then be completely avoided for 25 hours following the treatment. In most cases, that's all it takes: one session to alleviate an allergy. Individuals who are highly sensitive may sometimes require additional combination clearings.

Do I Really Need To Avoid Allergens For 25 Hours After A Treatment?

Many wonder about the 25-hour avoidance of the allergen after the NAET treatment has been administered. As mentioned in the guide book, some clients may get through the treatment sooner, but the client still should avoid the allergen for 25 hours if possible. In my experience, clients who observe the 25-hour avoidance period receive maximum benefit from the treatment.

Why Does NAET Help So Much With Illness?

Many sick people have metabolic and biochemical imbalances. When NAET clears allergies to vitamins, minerals, and basic foods, the body can come into balance and healing can take place.

What If I'm Skeptical, Will That Affect The Results?

No. The reprogramming is involuntary, and any reservations on the part of a client will not affect the outcome.

How Does NAET Fit Into A Larger Healthcare Program For Myself?

You do not have to change or stop medications or medical treatments to receive NAET. As the body begins to heal through NAET, adjustments in care and medications may be indicated. Clients must always work with their medical doctors regarding any change in care.

My Symptoms Seem Real, But My Physicians and Specialists Can’t Diagnose Me. Am I Imagining Them?

No, you are not imagining them. Allergies in their mildest forms are merely nuisances. But for some people, accidental contact with an allergen can produce terrifying toxins in the body that result in clearly diagnosed illness just as though that person had taken a poison.

Diagnosis for either is not easy, but the milder the complaint, the harder it is for the patient to get good treatment. For example, how do you treat a person for "feeling out of sorts", for a slight loss of memory, for a slight but persistent sore throat or cough, for a nagging, dull headache that does not respond to pain medications, for a persistent backache or a tingling feeling in the arms and hands that cannot be diagnosed by a neurologist?

Some of these unfortunate people have seen their physicians so many times that they cannot tell you how many times they have been ignored, diagnosed as suffering from a "nervous disorder" or been labeled a hypochondriac.

One Minute I Feel Fine And The Next Minute, I Feel Terrible. What is going on?

If the statistics are true, this question is asked by more than 50% of the people who enter their doctor's office as patients seeking answers to the misery of allergic reactions to what they inhale, ingest or contact in their environments every day.

If you find yourself in this select group, you know the frustration and hopelessness your condition has produced. The lucky clients have isolated the specific allergen and are avoiding it, but for the unlucky, the allergen either cannot be avoided without complete isolation, or it remains undiagnosed, resulting in severe and chronic ailments.
